SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Police say an 89-year-old woman has died after being hit by a bicyclist as she was walking on a path on the San Jose State University campus.

University police Capt. Alan Cavallo tells the San Jose Mercury News on Wednesday that the woman was on an early morning walk with another elderly woman last week when she was hit by the bike coming in the opposite direction.

Cavallo says the woman, whose name has not been released, suffered a "traumatic injury" and died at a hospital two days later.

The cyclist, described only as a female who does not attend classes at the university, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No charges have been filed.

Cavallo says bicycles are allowed on the campus paths.
