LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a woman has been found dead inside a fire-damaged apartment in Los Angeles, and investigators say the cause of the blaze appears to be suspicious.

City News Service reports firefighters found the elderly woman's body after knocking down flames at the apartment building in the Crenshaw district early Wednesday. Her name was not immediately released.

More than 40 firefighters responded to the fire on the ground floor apartment of the 33-unit two-story building. The flames were doused in less than 15 minutes.

Fire spokesman Erik Scott says arson investigators are on the scene and the fire's cause appears to be suspicious.
