VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – An attorney for former Storey County Commissioner Bum Hess is answers questions on-camera for the first time about the alleged assault of an 18-year-old which ended an arrest Friday at a high school basketball game.

“The whole thing is about some bad blood because Mister Hess's son played on the same team as a freshman as these guys and they didn't like the face he was getting to play. It’s kinda silly,” attorney Cal Dunlap said.

Dunlap implied the whole thing's being blown out of proportion - calling the felony charges "outlandish" without giving much more information.

“I'm not going to comment on that except that a scuffle doesn't warrant felony charges and we will deal with that latter on,” he said.

Dunlap added he expects something to come to light soon about the alleged victim Kody Burrell's troubled past and Burrell's role in the event. Burrell and his attorney declined to comment at this point.

I think the commenter SN1298 has this ALL WRONG. The adult was bumped by the younger adult, who then cursed and threatened the older adult, you responded-- not by beating anyone, but by grabbing the neck of the actual assailant to avoid being hit. Hess is the victim, and the younger adult is lucky he didn't get broken in half, cause he had it coming.

So an older adult, beats an 18-year old and that 18-year then requires medical attention. Whether there is bad blood or not - this is not "kind of silly" this was assault. Hess was out of control and committed assault and needs to be held accountable.
