Lyon County residents were rattled by three earthquakes within 30 minutes of each other Tuesday night, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The first, a 3.2 magnitude quake hit the Smith Valley area at 7:20 p.m. One minute later, a 3.9 temblor hit, and the last quake of the series was a magnitude 2.2 and hit 7:52 p.m. All three temblors were centered about a mile from the Smith Valley, near Yerington.
