Stormy weather moving through N. Nevada Tuesday caused some headaches for commuters.

The Nevada Highway Patrol responded to 15 accidents and several more spin-outs during the morning hours, and one area had so much accident activity that it led to a temporary road closure.

Between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a total of 15 accidents throughout the region, NHP Trooper Chuck Allen said.

Three accidents involved injuries while the other 12 were property damage only. Although Allen did not have details concerning every wreck, he provided some preliminary numbers concerning the commute this morning:

State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade): 4 accidents; a 2-vehicle head-on without injuries, a 3-car non-injury, and a 4-car with injuries with one person transported. Kingsbury Grade was closed in both directions for about 40 minutes this morning because of those accidents.

US Highway 50 West of US 395: 4 accidents; 3 were property damage and one was an injury. (All 4 happened between 10:10 and 11:00 am)

US395 @ Jacks Valley: 1 property damage accident

State Route 28 @ Ponderosa: 1 property damage accident

State Route 431 (Mt Rose Highway): 3 accidents; 2 property damage and 1 with injuries

5th St/Saliman (Carson City): 1 property damage accident

Interstate 80 @ Gold Ranch: 1 property damage accident

Allen said the NHP also responded to several spin-outs and "slide-off" on most of the mountain highways this morning.

Allen implied that snowy conditions likely contributed to most if not all of the incidents.

Another accident was reported on Interstate 80 at Goldranch, and snow was reported to be sticking on the road in the Golden Valley area.

Chains of four wheel drive with snow tires were required for most trans-Sierra roadways Tuesday morning, and between the Junction of US 395 Business and North Carson Street, and the junction between State Route 429 and Bowers Mansion Road, officials issued a high wind warning and prohibited trucks, buses, trailers and RVs.

For the Reno-Sparks area rain is the word for most part of the day. As the weather system moves through, residents will see the temperature climb a bit with Reno expecting a high of 51 by early afternoon. Strong winds are expected to gust up to 55 mph; but not quite as bad as Monday. By the late afternoon, the temperature will start to drop as the snow level follows suit, bringing the chance of flurries by Wednesday morning and a dusting possible of the valley floor. The over-night low will be 30. The system could last into Thursday with some clearing expected by Friday.
