NHP: 2 brothers die in rollover North of Elko

The Department of Public Safety says two brothers riding in a car in eastern Nevada died after their automobile ran off the side of the road.

Elko resident Daniel Uribe, 18, was driving a compact car southbound on State Route 225-or Mountain City Highway--near Crest View Drive, when he lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road and rolled it.

A preliminary investigation indicates Uribe was passing another vehicle in a no passing zone around a slight curve, says Trooper Jim Stewart.

During the rollover, passenger Rolando Uribe, 22, from Elko, was ejected from the Honda Civic, Stewart says. He was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries at the scene, according to troopers.

The driver, Daniel Uribe, was wearing a seatbelt, but later died at Utah Medical Center.

Troopers say motorists should always buckle their seatbelts to reduce injuries and possible ejections during a crash. The national "Click it or Ticket" campaign starts on May 18 to May 31, Stewart says.
