SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (KCRA.com)-- A Sparks teen killed at an under-21 dance party in Sacramento County appears to be the victim of a gang fight that didn't involve her, Sacramento County sheriff's detectives said Thursday.

Deputies arrested Jaivonne Flenory-Davis, 19, Thursday morning at a relative's apartment located in the 2600 block of River Plaza Drive in Sacramento.

He's been booked on suspicion of murder in the killing of Lanajah Dupree, 14, and attempted murder in the shooting of another girl, 17.

At about 10 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the Venue 4 Rent private event facility at 2902 Auburn Blvd. About eight shots were fired into a crowd at the facility, investigators said.

Dupree was found lying in a doorway and had been shot once in the upper body, deputies said. The 17-year-old was found in the parking lot. She had been shot once in the upper body and once in the arm.

Paramedics took both girls to hospitals, and Dupree was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, deputies said. The 17-year-old, whose name was not released, is expected to survive.

Investigators said there was an argument between rival gang members inside the party. Security guards told the party-goers to leave, and detectives said they think Flenory-Davis fired several shots into the air and several more into the crowd as people were exiting.

Sheriff's detectives said they don't think the two victims were Flenory-Davis' intended targets.

The owner of Venue 4 Rent, Kevin Kennedy, admitted to serving some jail time recently. He told a KCRA reporter that he was in jail recently for "pimping and pandering."

Mark as Offensive

I think that the parents of this child should be charged with child endangerment for allowing her to go to a place like that. It was not for 14 year old children and certainly not checked out before hand.
