Driver ticketed for Mount Rose Highway accident

Page Last Updated: Tuesday July 27, 2010 10:48pm PDT
News 4 learned the driver of an 18 wheeler that flipped and forced the Mount Rose Highway to be closed for several hours on Monday was issued a ticket. The Nevada Highway Patrol said the driver was going too fast for the road conditions.

The truck driver was carrying a load of demolition debris from Incline Village when he rounded a corner and tipped his rig. No one was hurt and no other vehicles were involved. However, about 30 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road, but was quickly mopped up.

The crash happened right next to the Tannenbaum Event Center.

Driver should have, for safety reasons, used either Hwy 267 to 80, etc, or use Hwy 50 to Carson. Mt Rose Hwy is not very "truckload" or "semi" friendly!!

Judy, your opinion is not supported by the facts. Mt. Rose is suitable for truck traffic. If it were not, the state would ban truck traffic altogether. Clearly speed was a factor in this case as the vehicle rolled to the outside of the corner. It would've been more appropriate for you to say "Driver should have, for safety reasons slowed to below the posted 15 mph speed limit to negotiate the corner." Additionally, there have been several similar accidents over the years at the same corner. Perhaps its time NDOT reduced the posted speed limit on that particular corner.
