The Reno City Council this week decided to delay its discussion of a partnership agreement with one of the area's largest special events; Hot August Nights.

The item had been on the council's agenda but was taken off at the last minute. Cadence Matijevich, the city's special events program manager, told News 4 both sides simply want more time to review the proposed agreement.

Matijevich says in these tight economic times, the city is taking a very close at sponsored events to make sure its getting the most bang for its buck.

Hot August Nights gets no cash from the city. Instead the city provides services like traffic and crowd control. But the amount it provides has been steadily decreasing in recent years.

Councilman Dave Aiazzi says that's because the city is trying to focus its efforts on supporting smaller events that aren't ready to support themselves.

"Those are the things we should be looking at. What is the next Hot August Nights we should be helping along," Aiazzi told News 4.

The issue may be added to next week's council agenda.
