NV Energy is reporting numerous power outages throughout the Truckee Meadows due to high wind.

Areas that are affected are Sparks, Stead and downtown Reno. The Sparks Library closed for the day due to a wind related power outage, according to Bonnie Saviers, the marketing coordinator for the Washoe County Library System. Provided power is restored, the library--on 1125 12th Street--will reopen Saturday.

The Reno court house was out of power for a short while Friday morning, but was later restored.

NV Energy Spokesman--Karl Walquist--said he expects power outages to continue to crop up throughout the day as long the winds continue.

The National Weather Service said south to southwest winds of 30 to 45 mph would be common Friday, with gusts of 60 to 70 mph. The service said stronger gusts to 90 mph would occur in wind prone areas and in the foothills near Reno and Carson City.

Also on Friday, the Nevada Department of Transportation issued travel restrictions through the windy Washoe Valley for high profile vehicles for most of the day.
