Fire near Yerington damages some homes

Fire crews are working to contain a brush fire that began in a densely populated area near Yerington Friday and caused minor damage to some homes.

The blaze-less than two acres in size-started at Mason Valley Road and Nevada State Route 208 during the afternoon and burned through the yards of some homes, causing minor damage to some of them, according to Jeff Page, Lyon County emergency management coordinator.

Mason Valley Fire, Central Lyon County Fire, Smith Valley Fire, the Nevada Division of Forestry and a few other agencies in northern Nevada responded, according to Page.

Crews were expecting to be on scene for a good portion of the afternoon tending to mop-up efforts.
