Reno City Hall |
The Reno City Council has allocated more than $3,000 to a local program designed to acquaint high school students with local government, and perhaps encourage their participation in government employment later in their lives.
"Four Steps Into the Future" employs student interns at City Hall after they have studied the workings of municipal government in their classes at school.
Since the program was launched in 2003, 77 students have participated. Most have continued their educations at UNR or TMCC. Fifteen of those students continued to work for the city while pursuing their college degrees.
The "Four Steps" program boasts a graduation rate of 89 percent.
