NHP warns residents of traffic dangers

The Nevada Highway Patrol is warning residents to drive slowly and carefully on area roads, as temperatures drop near zero and icy roads continue to pose hazards.
Troopers say people who drive four-wheel drive vehicles tend to get a "false sense of security" when they're behind the wheel.
"You have better traction and acceleration, absolutely," said Trooper Chuck Allen. "But in ice, every vehicle has the same braking ability, so even though you have a 4-by-4 or all-wheel drive, it doesn't mean you can stop any better than a two-wheel drive vehicle can."
The NHP handled more than 150 accidents, spin-outs and slides on Monday, but the accident rate had slowed considerably by Tuesday, when snow showers cleared.
