Icy roads, poor visibility cause dangerous road conditions

And many residential streets were still in fairly bad shape due to a week's worth of storm activity and their designation by snow removal crews as lower-priority.
Officials with the Reno Police Department issued a warning to drivers Monday to drive cautiously and slowly because of frozen roads throughout the city. Many major thoroughfares are only one and a half lanes wide and parking places in downtown have still not been plowed.
Several accidents were recorded on the Nevada Highway Patrol's Web site from 5 a.m. through 8 a.m. One spin-out involved several cars on Highway 395 southbound between Glendale and Mill Street exits. Another motorist's vehicle rolled on Rock Boulevard, near Edison.
City of Reno officials said plows will continue to finish up neighborhood streets, unless the weather picks up again; and they have to restart with priority-one roadways. On Sunday crews plowed those roads; which are all the major streets through town. Once those were clear, they began working on priority-two roads, which are neighborhood streets with the highest traffic volume and snow accumulation.
If you want to see where your street stands, log on to Reno's Web site showing what priority each street has. You must click through the links to find your area.
